Sudan has a federal republic government system, with the president as the chief of state and head of government. The economy is mostly agriculture-based, and there is limited government planning. There are natural resources like oil and minerals that are also mined and exported.

Why did Sudan split into 2 countries
The decision to secede by the southern Sudanese can be traced back to the northern Sudanese government’s consistent policy of marginalization of the southern part of the country since Sudan became independent in 1956. The north has alwayscontrolled the central government and the vast majority of the country’s resources, leaving the south bears the brunt of ailitias rebel attacks and economic hardship. In addition, the northerners have imposed Islamic law on the Sudan, while the majority of southerners are animists and Christians. The secession of South Sudan was therefore seen as the only way to ensure autonomy and protect their way of life.
The CPA marked the end of a long and brutal war, and the beginning of a new chapter for Sudan. The agreement was brokered by international actors, and resulted in the creation of a power-sharing government between the SPLM and the government of Sudan. The CPA also resulted in the independence of South Sudan in 2011.
